Harborview Loft
Racing Pigeons

Which should I try, the Dark system or the Light system ?

Competing on a club level against (5-15) lofts , in the North Section (65-100 lofts) of the Greater Boston Concourse (100-150 lofts) this loft has won the following A.U. and other National awards since first flying in 1982:

In 2001 I was diagnosed with a serious health problem and havn't been able to fly pigeons the way I would like to! After many surgical procedures and six months of chemo, I hope the worst is in the past. In 2004 I got good news about my condition and had a decent YB series.

The pigeons that have contributed to the success of this loft are mostly a Janssen based family of birds down from the late Harold Durkin of Bedford, MA.. Many of Harold's breeders were imports via Piet DeWeerd with the best known being a 1/2 brother of the " Merckx " and a son of the " Merckx " from the Janssen Brothers. Beside the Durkin Janssens ( which includes a hen "Monique"   and a cock " Lefty " off of an imported cock that was the brother of the " Major " from the loft of Guido Seys of Belgium when mated to one of Harold's Janssen hens) there have been several other notable additions.

One is AU 86 P 2304 "Pete" a straight Leen Boer cock I purchased for a young bird auction race. Pete didn't score in his young bird auction race but he did turn out to be a very good Old Bird Widowhood Cock by earning 12 separate AU diplomas competing against an average of 62 lofts, 711 birds to become A.U. Registered Champion # 800. Pete is the sire of AU 93 CAF 934 A.U. Champion # 1055 ( who has been 2nd Greater Boston Concourse two times against 177 lofts, 2319 birds and 112 lofts, 1202 birds respectfully ) and other good pigeons. In 1997 and 1998 a daughter bred three diploma winners.

The Super Crack Crousson cock from the loft of Frank McLaughlin has made an instant impact in my loft. He has bred a 500 mile concourse winner and many excellent pigeons for me and a North Section winner for a new flyer in my club. This Super Crack Crousson cock has bred excellent pigeons while mated to several different of my Janssen hens. I gave Frank one of his children and it bred a combine winner and many other diploma winners for the flyer he gave it to. His kids in my loft are also breeding excellent pigeons.

A Cock from Jack Yohe of Ohio with Super 73 lineage has also made an impact. As a widowhood cock (Jacques) scored many times in making himself AU Champion # 1524. His first year in the stock loft he bred a 150 mile Boston Concourse winner and since has proven himself to be an excellent breeder as well as a flyer.
