" Monique "

Monique ( AU 84 NSF 74 Blue Check Pied Hen ) was raised by the late Harold Durkin of Bedford, Ma. Her sire, 80 Belg 3443339 Blue Check cock was a Belgium import from the loft of Guido Seys who has been Champion of Belgium in the young bird category and also Long Distance Champion. When Guido won the National Marathon award in 1981 by having his first nominated birds accumulate the most points in the National races from: Montauban, Barcelona, and Lourdes, that capped off a series of earlier triumphs.

Her dam AU 80 MED 232 Red Checker Hen raised by Harold Durkin, is off of AU 73 WAK 345 Red Check Cock ( the sire of 8 club winners and 4 combine winners ), when mated to AU 72 GAC 2195 Plum hen that was raised by the well known John Spuria off of two imports via Piet DeWeerd.

She is the dam of two hens I gave to Tom Brancaleone, a fellow club member. Both of these hens have bred Tom some good pigeons with the most notable being " Sweet 16 " - ( AU 89 NSF 16 RCC ) a Greater Boston Concourse winner at 500 miles against 122 lofts, 1113 birds and AU Champion # 954.

When mated to AU 85 NSF 772 (a club yb race winner bred and raced by the loft of Jan&Russ) she bred "Gannon " (AU 87 NSF 338) Blue Barred White Flight Cock AU Champion # 759. Gannon earned his Champion certificate by winning a 500 mile diploma and a 600 mile diploma in 1988 ( the 600 mile diploma was a New England Open Diploma against 357 lofts and 4519 birds). In 1989 he earned one club diploma at 600 miles. The next year (1990 ) he came home in really bad shape from an early training toss and was lost for the rest of the season. In 1991 because of what happened the year before he was babied in his (getting) old age. He did win another New England Open diploma at 500 miles against 350 lofts and 4001 birds in the only long race he was going to be shipped. He also won a short race at the end of the year to earn his Champion status. In 1991 Gannon bred AU 91 CAF 439 that I gave to a beginner flyer. For that beginner flyer 439 scored 10th Boston Concourse at 350 miles against 174 lofts and 2053 birds. Since that time Gannon has bred other good pigeons.

In 1989 I mated Monique to "Link" (AU 88 CAF 28 Mealy Cock ) That was about the best thing I could have done. I now have three hens and two cocks from that mating that are breeding the best pigeons I have. I'm sorry to say that Monique got to old to quick and has been having a hard time breeding for years. Her eggs are few and far between!

Monique is dam to " Gannon " - ( AU 87 NSF 338 BBC ) AU Champion # 759 with diplomas at 100-600 miles ( two are New England Open diplomas )   ; gr - dam to Ridley - ( AU 91 NSF 1188 RCC )  the 1994 Hall of Fame winner against 151 - 200 lofts and AU Champion   # 977 with six diplomas at 300, 400, and 500 miles ( three are New England Open diplomas ) ; and Gr-dam to "Mario" ( AU 93 CAF 934 RCC ) - AU Champion # 1055 with eight diplomas at 100 - 300 miles. " Mario " also won the 1993 Thoroughbred YB Ace Pigeon Award against 1501-2500 birds. Both "Mario" and "Ridley" have been 2nd Greater Boston Concourse. Each missed 1st place honors by one second. Monique's blood runs deep in all of my best pigeons.
